The Great Kapok Tree: A Tale of the Amazon Rain Forest - Lynne Cherry

This book is about two men that go to the rain forest to cut down trees. The youngest boy falls asleep next to a tree and the animals that live in the tree come down and tell them boy not to cut the tree down. The boy wakes up and remembers what the animals said and her didn't cut down their tree. I would use this in a 1st or 2nd grade setting and use it a sequencing lesson.

A Bear Called Paddington - Michael Bond, Peggy Fortnum

This book is about a bear who is found at the bus station by a family. There was a sign on his luggage that said "please take care of this bear. Thank you". The family did just that, but they did not know the the bear could be so much trouble. I would use this a 1st or 2nd grade setting as a read aloud and have the students use their prier knowledge about bears and compare them to the bear in the story.

Junie B. Jones Has a Monster Under Her Bed (Junie B. Jones, No. 8) - Barbara Park

This book is about a boy in Junie B.'s class that tells her monsters are real. Junie B. goes home the her grandmother and gets her to do vacuum the monster up from under her bed, so she could sleep at night. I would use this book in a 1st or 2nd grade setting and have the student do a writing on How to make a monster trap.

Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth - Denise Brunkus,  Barbara Park

In this book Junie B. Jones class is having a job day. June B. tells everyone that she has the besets job of all. I would use this in a 2nd or 3rd grade setting and have a job day for my students.

The Giving Tree - Shel Silverstein

This book is about a tree that continuously gives to a little boy, until it cannot give any more. I would use this in a 1st or 2nd grade setting. I would have my students create their own giving tree, then write about what their giving tree will give to them or someone else.

Harold and the Purple Crayon - Crockett Johnson

This book is about a little boy who takes a walk. He uses a purple crayon to create everything he comes across along the way. I would use this in a 1st grade setting and allow the students to pick a crayon and take their own adventure and draw what they see.

 

Madeline - Ludwig Bemelmans

This book is about an orphan girl who is trying to save the orphanage from closing. I would use this book in a 2nd grade setting and have the student make a time line of Madeline's school day and then make one of their school day to compare them. 

Chrysanthemum - Kevin Henkes

This book is about a little girl who gets made fun of  by her classmates at school. I would reads this at beginning of school to teach my students not to make fun of others. I would use this in a 2nd grade setting.

Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes - Eric Litwin, James Dean

This book is about a cat who goes to school rocking his new shoes. I would use this book in a 3rd grade setting. I would let my students write about what some of their favorite things are and let the draw a picture of what they wrote about.

The True Story of the Three Little Pigs! - John A. Scieszka

The book is the wolf's story on what really happened in The Three Little Pigs. I would use this in a 1-3rd grade setting when comparing and contrasting two different text.

The Tale of Three Trees - Angela Elwell Hunt, Tim Jonke

This book is about three trees that are on top of a mountain dreaming about what they would love to be. A woodcutter cam and cut the trees down an made them into what the dreamed of being. I would use this in a 1st or 2nd grade setting when talking about folktales.

The Three Little Pigs - Barry Moser

This is about three little pigs who go off to find their fortune. A wolf comes along and blows two pigs houses down and tries to blow the third pigs house down but did not succeed. I would use this in a 1st or 2nd grade setting when talking about comparing and contrasting different text, because there are so many versions of this book.

Hop On Pop: Blue Back Book (Dr Seuss - Blue Back Book) (Dr. Seuss Blue Back Books) - Dr. Seuss

This is a great book to use for a phonics lesson in a 1st grade setting.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish - Dr. Seuss

This book is about a boy and a girl who have many amazing creatures they have for friends and pets. I would use this in a 1st grade setting when talking about rhyming.

The Cat in the Hat - Dr. Seuss

This book is about two little kids who are bored and can't play outside because of the rain. The cat in the hat comes to their house and makes a big mess. I would use this in a 1st grade setting when talking about sequencing.

This book is about how a little boy wakes up and there are things that are happening out of the ordinary. I would use this in a lesson on how thing don't always go as planned. I would use this in a 1st grade setting.
